From January to November 2020, the good to excellent levels of ambient air quality in Nanming district came in at an average of 98.8 percent, with all the indicators maintaining high air quality standards, according to local media reports on Dec 29.

In order to further improve the environment, the district -- in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has introduced a major initiative.

It has established a joint prevention and control mechanism -- with the full cooperation of relevant departments -- to monitor and treat pollution from straw and refuse burning, dust, and cooking fumes among other things.

In addition, the district has engaged in a range of water treatment initiatives.

In April, the dredging of five large trenches, the rehabilitation of sewage ditches, the diversion of rainwater and sewage and the reconstruction of ditches were completed.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), the district invested about 350 million yuan ($53.69 million) to implement special projects to improve its sewage treatment capacity.

It invested about 1.6 billion yuan to construct four sewage treatment plants and one sewage treatment station -- so as to improve the self-purification capacity of the Nanming River, reduce the sewage downstream and improve the overall water quality.

Furthermore, in order to improve the living environment of its residents, the district has rebuilt shantytowns and established an urban micro park.

From 2016 to 2018, 57 parks were completed, involving more than 70 hectares.
