Nanming's economy experiences positive growth in Q1

In the first quarter of the year, the leading economic indicators for Nanming district – which is situated in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – improved significantly, showing a steady recovery of economic operations in the new year. 

During the period, Nanming's GDP reached 18.93 billion yuan ($2.84 billion), a year-on-year increase of 18.9 percent.

Among the economic indicators, the added value of the primary industry was 18 million yuan, increasing 5.1 percent year-on-year.

Elsewhere, the added value of the secondary industry in Q1 was 5.98 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 30.9 percent, while the added value of the tertiary industry was 12.94 billion yuan, increasing 14.2 percent year-on-year.

The ratio of Nanming's primary, secondary and tertiary industries was reportedly adjusted to 0.1:31.6:68.3.

Meanwhile, from January to March, the production and operation of companies in Nanming reportedly performed well and the economy expanded. 

The added value of the manufacturers above a designated size in the district – a statistical term referring to companies with annual turnover of 20 million yuan ($3.1 million) or more – increased by 38.5 percent year-on-year.

Fifteen of the 18 industry categories in the district maintained a strong growth momentum. Among them, the tobacco products industry, the gas production and supply industry, power supply industry, food manufacturing industry and petroleum processing industry maintained double-digit growth. 

The city's strategic emerging industries also showed a rapid growth trend, accounting for 6.3 percent of the district's industrial added value during the period.

Also in the first quarter, fixed-asset investments in Nanming increased by 35.6 percent year-on-year.

The consumer market accelerated its recovery. Total Q1 retail sales in Nanming came in at 17.05 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 35.5 percent. 

The employment situation in Nanming was reportedly generally stable, while the tourism market gradually recovered.

In the three months, a total of 12,295 new jobs were offered to job seekers in Nanming, an increase of 4,723 positions on the January to February period.

During the period, Nanming received 4.37 million visits, a year-on-year increase of 116.5 percent. This generated tourism revenue of 6.72 billion yuan, an increase of 89 percent.
