The Fengshan Martyrs Cemetery in the Nanming district of Guiyang -- the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- will soon be renovated and upgraded, to better showcase the revolutionary culture of the city and the deeds of its martyrs.

The initiative was announced at a recent expert meeting -- convened to review the "Feasibility Study Report on the Reconstruction Project of the Fengshan Martyrs Cemetery in Nanming District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province". The meeting was organized by the Nanming district's bureau of veterans affairs.

The upgrading will reportedly highlight the region's red spirit, promote patriotism and show the core values of socialism, while the main goal is to upgrade the cemetery comprehensively.

The planned land area to be revamped covers 55,199 square meters. The project will focus on renovating and upgrading the overall layout of the martyr's cemetery, its green design, salutation square and the memorial exhibition display.

The upgrade will cover multi-functional areas such as circular trails, memorial halls, stele forest areas, memorial worship areas, as well as learning and display areas.

Established in 1950, the Fengshan Martyrs Cemetery contains the remains of 280 martyrs who gave their lives for liberating Guizhou province during the Liberation War, which lasted from 1946 to 1949 . It also houses the remains of progressive youth and volunteer soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the "Double Eleven Massacre" in Guiyang.
