Nanming district in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, will renovate its shanty towns, old residential communities, back streets and alleyways in an effort to improve its residential environment over a three-year period.
According to Liu Yongfa, the person in charge of Nanming's city renovation projects, by 2023, Nanming will implement 41 shanty town renovation projects with a total area of about 7 million square meters, which is expected to benefit more than 41,000 households when completed.
It will also renovate around 19 old residential communities benefiting more than 48,000 households and finish the renovation and upgrading of 197 back streets and alleyways.
Additionally, Nanming is riding on the waves of city upgrades to boost the development of its commerce, trade and service industries. The goal is to construct Nanming into a leading area of middle to high-end consumption.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Nanming has set a goal to achieve an average annual GDP growth rate above 8.5 percent.
The average annual growth rate of industrial added value above designated size should exceed 9.5 percent, and the total retail sales of consumer goods should increase above 8.5 percent annually on average.
Through a series of measures, such as building new business circles and supporting nighttime economy development, Nanming is expected to build a national-level pedestrian mall and form one or two nighttime economy demonstration areas by 2022.
By 2025, Nanming will be built into an "International High-end Consumer Goods Processing and Trade Integrated Demonstration Zone" and a "Middle to High-end Consumption Leading Area."
Nanming will strive to reach a GDP of 150 billion yuan ($22.51 billion), with a city population of 1.2 to 1.3 million.
