The Nanming district of Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has issued plans to renovate its shanty towns, old residential communities, backstreets and alleyways in an initiative to transform its living environment over a three-year period.

In the next three years, Nanming will implement shanty town renovation projects involving 7.01 million square meters, that are expected to benefit more than 41,000 households.

It will also do remedial work on old residential communities that will improve the lives of an additional 48,000 households and it will finish renovations and upgrading of 202 backstreets and alleyways.

As 2021 is the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), it is seen as a milestone for the implementation of the five-year-long program for Guiyang to become "a competitive provincial capital".
