Pantaogong farmer's market – located in the Nanming district of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – is currently undergoing renovation and upgrading that is expected to create much-improved facilities and a substantially better shopping environment.

The farmer's market was constructed and started operating in 1997, and in the ensuing 20 years, it has had a number of renovations.

However, it is understood that structural deterioration, unbalanced distribution of businesses and outdated infrastructure and support equipment have not been fundamentally addressed and it has not been able to fully meet customer needs.

As a result, in line with the Guiyang City Standardized Farmers Market Construction Standard policy, Nanming took action to rejuvenate the facility.

After the revamp is completed, the stalls will be divided into several standardized areas for the fresh, live, raw, cooked and dry product categories.

Support facilities for ventilation, water supply and drainage, firefighting and sanitation will be fully equipped.

In addition to the renewal of infrastructure, the market will also make full use of the latest technology to introduce smart systems such as smart payments, food safety traceability, electronic monitoring, e-commerce, data exchanges and logistics distribution – bringing more convenience to merchants and residents.

The construction area of the Pantaogong farmer's market is about 2,100 square meters and the overall renovation and upgrading work is expected to be completed before Aug 30.

The upgraded farmer's market will have more than 120 stalls with 28 business formats, which are expected to meet the daily shopping needs of 20,000 to 30,000 residents living within a kilometer.
