The box office revenue of 10 cinemas in Nanming district of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, during the National Day holiday reached 11.16 million yuan ($1.67 million), with a total of 226,788 people visiting the cinema.
Statistics revealed by local authorities show that both box office revenues and the number of viewers hit new records during the seven-day holiday from Oct 1 to 7.
The sharp increase in the number of moviegoers and the record-breaking box office revenue were largely due to the fact that many anticipated movies debuted during the holiday.
The film The Battle at Lake Changjin was among the most popular films.
To boost film going, local cinemas also provided discounted tickets to the public and invited retired veterans to watch films for free.
In addition, a series of films to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China were screened, helping people learn more about the history of the Party.
