The Nanming district of Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – is understood to have been carrying out renovation and upgrading of its back streets and alleys since the start of the year.

One back street called Xihu alley, near Guiyang city's landmark Jiaxiu Pavilion, is a prime example of Nanming's efforts.
It's been paved with asphalt, decorated with themed paintings and street seats and parking lots have been installed, turning around the previously neglected area and benefiting residents.
