The Nanming district of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, will reportedly raise nearly 3 billion yuan ($450 million) in order to build 11,000 public parking spaces by the end of 2023.
That's according to Liu Guijun, head of the district government, who talked about the measure during an interview with the Guiyang Radio and Television Station on Dec 20.
The move is one of the major initiatives being undertaken to alleviate traffic congestion and solve transport problems for residents.
Under the plan, from 2022 to 2023, Nanming will not only install new public parking spaces but also repair and connect damaged roads such as the Ergezhai Interchange Ramp, Hongyan North Road, Guigang No 1 Road and the Guigang No 2 Road.
Public transportation systems involving buses, the metro and rail will be further improved.
Xie Guangshun, director of the Nanming branch of the Guiyang Bureau of Public Security and Traffic Management, also said during the interview that other measures will be undertaken to solve traffic congestion.
These include transferring medical staff members' vehicles near hospitals to other areas, to provide more parking spaces for patients and their families, as well as to renovate and build harbor-style bus stations -- to avoid the build-up of following vehicles when buses enter conventional bus stations.
Furthermore, by adding isolation barriers, adding eye-catching traffic guidance signs and other initiatives, Nanming aims to improve traffic flows and avoid vehicle and driver conflicts.
