Efforts made by Nanming district in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, in boosting scientific and technological innovation have finally paid off.
In 2018, 2019 and 2021, Nanming was listed as one of "China's Top 100 National Science and Technology Innovation Districts".
In recent years, the number of high-tech enterprises and technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises in Nanming has steadily increased, and the main body of scientific and technological innovation has grown stronger.
From 2018 to 2021, the number of high-tech enterprises in Nanming increased from 64 to 79, and the number of new technology-based SMEs increased from four to 159, a nearly 40-fold increase.
Nanming is currently home to 258 high-tech enterprises, ranking second in Guizhou province.
In 2021, Nanming invested 3.32 billion yuan ($498.12 million) in R&D for above-qualified construction enterprises and industrial enterprises and service industries above designated size.
The technology contract turnover of technology enterprises in Nanming in 2021 reached 5.75 billion yuan, ranking second in the province.
During the 2021 China International Big Data Industry Expo, the third "Tencent Cloud Digital Economy Industrial Base" in China officially set up operations in Nanming.
The establishment of the base has rapidly increased the concentration of the big data industry in Nanming, and 51 companies have been introduced to the district since then.
In terms of innovation incubation, statistics show that Nanming has built 82 innovation platforms of various types. Among them, 25 have been established as maker spaces, incubators and business accelerators, accounting for one-third of the total number of innovation platforms in Guizhou.
Meanwhile, Nanming is home to 57 innovation platforms such as provincial laboratories and provincial engineering technology research centers, accounting for 11 percent of the total innovation platforms in the province.
