The box office revenue of 10 cinemas in Nanming district of Guiyang – the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – broke a record during the Labor Day holiday, raking in 3.34 million yuan ($143,884.89) for a year-on-year increase of 123.24 percent.
A total of 94,000 people visited the cinema in Nanming, representing a surge of 111.88 percent compared with the same period last year.
Statistics from local authorities show that during the four-day break from April 29 to May 2, the box office revenue of Nanming's Hongtongcheng Cinema ranked first in Guiyang for four consecutive days.
During the holiday, cinemas in Nanming district rolled out a series of drives and initiatives to boost audience sizes, including providing discounted tickets.
