The once-polluted Nanming River is gradually recovering its formerly clear water due to recent efforts to prevent and control pollution undertaken this year.

The river is a tributary of Wujiang River, passing through the urban area of Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Due to urban development, population increases and other factors, Nanming River has seen its water quality deteriorate, resulting in the river gaining an infamous reputation as a stinky ditch.

After systematic and effective treatment in recent years, however, the water quality has improved and the ecology of the riverbank has recovered, making it a suitable place for locals to relax and exercise, and for birds and other fauna to inhabit.
