Nanming takes lead in GDP total and growth

The GDP of Nanming district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has surpassed 100 billion yuan ($13.70 billion) for the second consecutive year and maintained its position as the top contributor to Guiyang's GDP for the fifth consecutive year.

To achieve these feats, Nanming has focused on high-end, intelligent, and green development, reinforcing scientific and technological innovation and digital empowerment.

In 2023, Nanming made significant strides in developing its industrial economy. With a focus on the construction of one industrial park and three zones, the district acquired 294.72 mu (19.65 hectares) of industrial land, initiated the construction of standard factories covering 361,300 square meters, and completed a total of 620,000 sq m of standard factory space.

Industrial investment in the district reached 3.30 billion yuan in 2023, a 21.4-percent year-on-year increase and ranking among the top in Guiyang.

Meanwhile, 19 new industrial projects were introduced in the district, with a total investment of approximately 6.38 billion yuan. The value for enterprises above a designated scale reached 26.71 billion yuan, and the added value of the industries above a designated size saw a year-on-year growth rate of 9.5 percent.

The district's digital economy has also grown in both size and quality. The scale of the digital economy industry reached 4.75 billion yuan, the second highest in the province.

Moreover, more than 690 physical economy enterprises have become highly-integrated with big data, surpassing the provincial average in terms of integration.

Furthermore, the district has witnessed a surge in scientific and technological innovation. Sixty-nine new high-tech enterprises have been identified, bringing the total to 251, the second most in the province.

Additionally, 207 science and technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises have been established, also the second most in the province. R&D expenditures for enterprises above a designated scale have grown by 152.5 percent year-on-year to the highest level in the city.

In the coming year, Nanming's goals for economic and social development include GDP growth of around 5.5 percent, with the added values of agriculture, industries above a designated size, and service industry increasing by approximately 3 percent, 9 percent, and 6 percent, respectively.

The district will also provide supportive policies for enterprises, propelling the rapid development and expansion of the private economy, with a target of registering 100,000 private enterprises.
