Nanming district pioneers urban green space innovation

Nanming district in Guiyang has emerged as a model for sustainable urban development through the creative integration of green spaces and community needs. The recently opened Guanzhou pocket park, a 1,000-square-meter urban green space, exemplifies this approach with its child-friendly play areas, cultural walking paths, and versatile recreational facilities – all repurposed from previously underutilized public corridors.

Building on these efforts, Nanming has developed a thriving "park plus" ecosystem that blends nature with commerce and culture. The Huaguoyuan Wetland Park, nestled between major shopping complexes, has become a popular retreat for shoppers and nature enthusiasts. Meanwhile, Forest Park's cliffside "Monkey Coffee" has gained popularity on social media, serving up to 600 beverages daily to visitors enjoying panoramic views, demonstrating the economic potential of nature-based business district.  

These initiatives have yielded measurable environmental improvements, including a 99.5 percent air quality excellence rating in 2024 and the addition of 60,000 sq m of new green space. The district's comprehensive approach – combining pocket parks, commercial-natural hybrids, and strict ecological protection – has created a blueprint for urban areas seeking to balance development with environmental health.
