Profile of Nanming

As one of the core urban districts of Guiyang, Nanming district spans a total area of 209.34 square kilometers with a permanent population of 1.04 million residents. The district's unique geographical features include an average elevation of 1,260 meters above sea level, making it one of the world's cities with the lowest levels of ultraviolet radiation.

With an annual average temperature of 18C (summer average 24C) and over 1,354 hours of sunshine annually, Nanming enjoys fresh air rich in negative oxygen ions, boasting air quality excellence on 95 percent of days throughout the year. This combination of natural advantages has established Nanming as an increasingly attractive destination for living, working, and business.

Strategically positioned as a crucial transportation hub connecting China's western regions with coastal areas such as Guangdong and Guangxi, Nanming boasts a comprehensive multi-modal transportation network. The district is home to Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport, which operates over 60 domestic and international routes with an annual passenger throughput exceeding 15 million. Three major railway stations – Guiyang Railway Station, Guiyang South Railway Station, and Guiyang East Railway Station – serve as critical nodes along several national rail lines.

Nanming demonstrated remarkable economic performance in 2024, maintaining its position as the second-ranked district in provincial GDP while contributing 19 percent to Guiyang's overall economic growth. The district's industrial transformation strategy, centered on a "one core, two wings" development model, attracted 19 high-tech manufacturing projects, including leading enterprises.

The Ergezhai logistics industrial cluster emerged as a regional leader, integrating warehousing, distribution, and information services with 24 A-level logistics enterprises. The financial sector grew to represent 9 percent of the district's GDP, while the broader service economy saw 14.7 percent year-on-year growth across eight major industries, with powerful performances in scientific research (31.9 percent growth) and internet services (23 percent growth).

Urban renewal initiatives transformed Nanming's cityscape through 62 completed "15-minute living circle" projects and the award-winning redevelopment of historic areas such as the Cao Zhuangyuan block, which received the prestigious 2024 World Design Award. The district's business-friendly environment supported 199,000 registered market entities while implementing innovative administrative reforms that streamlined business processes, helping to secure a 40.92 percent growth in industrial investment.

Social development also keeps pace with economic progress through the expansion of educational facilities, including nine new or renovated schools, which added 4,800 student places. Healthcare improvements included the ongoing expansion of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine's Guizhou branch and upgrades to district medical facilities. Rural vitalization programs demonstrated Nanming's balanced development approach, featuring agricultural innovations that included a 300-mu (20 hectares) peach cultivation demonstration zone and comprehensive improvements to rural infrastructure and living standards across 29 villages.

Nanming district continues to strengthen its role as a model of urban-rural integration through sustainable development strategies. The district's unique combination of natural advantages, strategic location, economic vitality, and dedication to balanced development positions it as a shining example of Guizhou's progress and potential on the national stage.
