Guiyang's Nanming district has marked 70 years of progress in improving public wellbeing, with major achievements in education, healthcare, employment, and elderly care. Focusing on practical initiatives, the district has turned small steps into significant changes, offering a warm and substantial "report card" for its residents.

Education

In 2025, Nanming built or expanded five schools and kindergartens, adding 4,020 new seats. The district now has 74 public schools with over 103,000 students, while preschool enrollment has reached 92.6 percent and compulsory education retention 99.7 percent.

Looking ahead, Nanming plans to build at least 20 new model schools in five key areas within three to five years to ensure balanced, high-quality development.

Healthcare

Medical resources have expanded to 748 institutions, including 12 tertiary hospitals and over 600 community health units. A "15-minute healthcare circle" has also formed, giving residents easy access to local services.

Partnerships between district hospitals and top provincial and national hospitals are bringing specialist care closer to home, while the number of family doctor teams has grown to 135. Elderly and child healthcare services have also been strengthened, alongside the growth of traditional Chinese medicine facilities and a budding health industry cluster.

Employment

Nanming has prioritized stable and high-quality employment. Since 2025, it has hosted 90 job fairs, serving more than 1,500 companies and offering over 56,000 positions. Initiatives like the "Dream-Building Nanming" program support graduates, disadvantaged groups, and entrepreneurs through subsidies, training, and platform services. More than 1,000 workers received training this year in fields such as childcare, digital marketing, and e-commerce.

Elderly care

Nanming has expanded its elderly care network, including 17 care institutions, 16 street-level service centers, and 67 community stations. Innovative models such as "elderly care + dining, housekeeping, or healthcare" are improving services. Smart systems, including wearable devices and one-touch emergency calls, provide safety for seniors living alone, ensuring timely responses in emergencies.

By strengthening education, healthcare, employment, and elderly services, Nanming has transformed challenges into opportunities, offering residents tangible improvements and building a more inclusive, people-centered model of urban development.
