Immersive event explores Guiyang's urban heritage

An immersive cultural event exploring Guiyang's urban heritage was held on Aug 8 at the Guizhou Ethnic Museum, offering residents and visitors an engaging look into the city's history and cultural roots.

The event featured Xi Jing, secretary-general of the Nanming District Federation of Literary and Art Circles, as the keynote speaker.

Her presentation traced Guiyang's urban development over thousands of years, from the remains of early humans at the Zhaoguodong Cave dating back about 40,000 years to the city's evolution through the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties.

Drawing on her documentary works Yanhuo Qingyun and The Furnace: A City's Steel Memories, Xi explored the city's development through everyday life in its historic neighborhoods, as well as its industrial heritage. She also highlighted the cultural significance of Jiaxiu Pavilion and the legacy of Wang Yangming's philosophy.

In addition, the event featured interactive discussions and a hands-on sketching session, during which participants drew historic landmarks and created cultural postcards inspired by Guiyang.

It aimed to deepen public understanding of Guiyang's history and cultural heritage while promoting the preservation and revitalization of the city's cultural identity through public cultural programs.
