The zero-carbon industrial park of CSCEC Guizhou Construction Science Research and Design Institute Co in Nanming district of Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been recognized by People's Daily as a national model for green transformation, showcasing innovative approaches to industrial decarbonization and intelligent carbon management.

The industrial park covers 10,380 square meters across 12 buildings. It is China's first zero-carbon park featuring buildings with more than 50 years of history.

It underwent a comprehensive renovation starting in 2023, deploying more than 60 low-carbon technologies across architecture, landscaping, transportation, municipal infrastructure, and energy systems to transform the aging complex into a zero-carbon demonstration project.

The renovation follows a five-step approach: "diagnose, design, invest, renovate and operate". Intelligent equipment, including wall-climbing inspection robots, lightweight scanners, and drones, is used to assess building safety, energy efficiency, and resource consumption, enabling targeted renovation plans for individual buildings.

A 3,528-sq-m photovoltaic system generates about 579,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and cuts carbon emissions by more than 300 metric tons. Meanwhile, a smart operations platform equipped with 60 intelligent electricity and water meters enables real-time monitoring and optimization of resource use.

Following the renovation, the park achieved net annual carbon emissions of -52.9 tons of carbon dioxide, marking a net-zero milestone and offering a replicable model for the low-carbon transformation of existing buildings.
