Nanming district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, saw its gross domestic product (GDP) rise from 91.81 billion yuan ($13.75 billion) in 2020 to 120.7 billion yuan in 2025, reflecting five years of economic growth driven by industrial upgrading and digital development.
A major shift has taken place in the district's industrial structure. The output share of its electronic information manufacturing and biotechnology sectors increased from 6.7 percent to 46.25 percent, while the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size grew by an average of 8.36 percent annually.
The establishment of the Guizhou Nanming Economic Development Zone has provided a platform for this transformation. Approved in October 2024 and officially launched in November 2025, the 7.82-square-kilometer zone focuses on intelligent manufacturing, producer services, specialty light industry, smart logistics, and tobacco-related supporting industries.
The zone has developed nearly 1 million square meters of standardized factory space. It now hosts 99 enterprises above designated size in relevant statistical categories, 10 provincial-level technologically-advanced enterprises, and 17 high-tech enterprises.
Digital industries are also gaining momentum. Nanming has established Guizhou's first artificial intelligence laboratory, while the Huaguoyuan Digital Industry Cluster has been recognized as a provincial-level software industry park.
The district is also developing data labeling, AI-generated content, artificial intelligence, and industrial internet businesses through the Nanming Digital Intelligence Industrial Park, which has attracted 39 companies.
